We've GOT to Talk About It: Addressing the Issues of Domestic and Sexual Violence, provides an opportunity for community members and students to explore together the problem of domestic and sexual violence and learn about current services, prevention efforts, and opportunities for activism.
Domestic and sexual violence are pandemic in the United States and in Oregon, but remain behind a curtain of silence except for times when a case is so notable that it ˇ°makes the news." But then, when it becomes °old news" the curtain comes down until the next notable case. During this conference we hope to raise the curtain permanently, turn on the spotlights, and provide participants with information and ideas for activism so they may take their ideas on the road. This will be accomplished through a combination of video; lecture; performance using dance, music and poetry; testimony; small experiential group work; workshops, and informal networking. Education is key to ending domestic and sexual violence.
In order to reach as many people as possible we have designed the conference to be both a community event and a one-credit undergraduate course. A certificate of attendance will be available to all who participate. The conference provides an excellent opportunity to network with regional professionals and build relationships with others who are interested in eliminating domestic and sexual violence.
