The "deep state" in Asia is the legacy of pre-colonial political formations (such as the Khmer kingdom of today's Cambodia whose Angkor Wat temple was built in the 12th century) that were dominant and well-ordered. Today, the most prominent feature of governance in Asia is the presence of a dominant and developmental state.
